Double Chocolate Gooey Butter Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 c. (2 sticks) butter
  • 1 pkg chocolate cake mix
  • 3 lg eggs
  • 1 8 oz. pkg cream cheese
  • 3-4 Tbs. cocoa powder
  • 1 lb. powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. chopped nuts

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees & place rack in center of oven. Lightly butter a 13X9 in. baking dish. In a lg bowl, stir together cake mix, 1 egg & ½ c. butter until well combined; pat into prepared pan.

In a large mixer bowl, beat cream cheese on medium speed until smooth. Beat in remaining 2 eggs & cocoa powder until combined well. Reduce speed to low & add sugar; mix well. Gradually beat in remaining ½ c. butter & extract, beating until smooth. Fold in nuts & spread over cake mixture in pan.

Bake until set around edges but center is a little gooey, 40-50 min (don't overbake). Cool slightly before serving.
