Beat salt, sugar, shortening, eggs, pecans and vanilla together until fluffy. Mash bananas and add to the creamed mixture. Add flour alternately with buttermilk with soda mixed in. Pour into greased and floured loaf pans or muffin tins and bake at 325 degrees for approx. 50 minutes (only 35 minutes for muffins). Yields 3 loafs or 2 loafs and 12 muffins.
