Ingredients
- 1/4 lb Bacon, diced
- 1 1/2 lb Ground Beef
- 1 cup Chopped Onion
- 1/2 cup Chopped Green Bell Pepper
- 3 cloves Garlic, minced
- 3 cans (15 Ounces Each) Chopped Tomatoes
- 1 1/2 Six Ounce Cans Tomato Paste
- 3/4 cup Red Wine
- 3/4 cup Water
- 1/4 cup Chopped Flat Leaf Parsley
- 2 1/2 tsp Dried Basil
- 2 1/2 tsp Dried Oregano
- 2 tsp Salt
- 1 tsp Dried Thyme
- 1 tsp Sugar
- 1 Small Bay Leaf, crumbled
- Freshly Ground Black Pepper, to taste
Preparation
Step 1
In a Dutch oven, fry bacon until crisp; remove bacon and set aside. Add ground beef to pan and cook until no longer pink. Stir in onion, green pepper, and garlic. Cook and stir a few minutes, then add all remaining ingredients and reserved bacon; stir well. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, and simmer uncovered for 2-1/2 to 3 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened. Serve over hot cooked pasta of choice.
