Split Pea Soup

Ingredients

  • 16 oz. dry split peas
  • 1 1/2 qt.water
  • 1 1/2 chicken broth
  • 4 *Drier's* smoked ham hocks
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 1 clove garlic diced
  • 1 1/2 C. chopped carrots
  • 1 C. celery
  • salt and pepper to taste

Preparation

Step 1

In 4 qt. Dutch oven, combine peas,water, chicken broth,ham hocks, onion, garlic and seasonings.Simmer uncovered, 1 1/2 hours. Remove ham hocks, trim ymeat off bone and return meat to pan. Stir in carrots and celery. Simmer, uncovered, an additional 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until soup reaches desired thickness.
