Southern Style BarBQ Baked Beans

    slices bacon

    medium onion, chopped

  • ½

    medium green pepper, chopped

  • 3

    large cans (28 ounces each) pork and beans

  • ¾

    cup barbecue sauce (any flavor and brand)

  • ¾

    cup brown sugar

  • ¼

    cup distilled white vinegar

  • 2

    teaspoons dry mustard

  • 1

    teaspoon cinnamon


Adjust oven rack to lower-middle position and heat oven to 325 degrees. Fry bacon in large skillet until bacon has partially cooked. Remove bacon from pan and drain on paper towels. Mix everything else in a large bowl, then pour into a 9x13 baking dish. Top with bacon, then baked until beans are bubbly and sauce has thickened, about 2 hours. (beans will slightly thicken as they stand)
