Ingredients

  • 2 pounds mild italian sausage
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 pound bacon, diced
  • 1 large onion, diced
  • 2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 6 medium red potatoes, cubed
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 1 bunch kale, washed well, chopped and tough stems removed.

Step 1

In a stock pot cook the italian sausage and red pepper flakes for about 10 minutes or until browned. Drain and set aside. Cook the bacon in the same pot until crispy. Leave some bacon drippings in the pan and brown the onions and garlic. Pour in the chicken broth, bring to a boil. Add the potatoes and cook about 15 minutes, until tender. Reduce heat to medium and stir in the sausage, half and half and kale. Cook a few more minutes until the kale softens.
