Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 4 t. baking powder
  • 1 t. salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 1 cup walnuts, chopped
  • 1 1/2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
  • 3 1/2 cups boiling water

Step 1

Preheat oven to 350 and grease a 10x15 baking pan and set aside.

Sift together the flour, sugar, 1/2 cup of the cocoa powder, baking powder and salt in a large bowl.

Add the milk, vegetable oil and vanilla and stir until smooth and well combined. Fold in the nuts until evenly incorporated.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, and then sprinkle the brown sugar and the remaining 1/4 cup of cocoa powder on top. Pour the boiling water on top of everything. Bake until the top looks dry, about 40 minutes.
