Ingredients
- 4 large Granny Smith or other tart baking apples
- 1/2 cup blanched almonds, very finely chopped
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 1/2 tablepoons butter, melted
- 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- heavy cream or vanilla cream sauce
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Core the apples and cut each one lengthwise into two parts. Mix together the almonds, sugar and water to make a paste. Fill the centers of the apples with the almond paste, dividing the paste equally among them. Arrange them on a shallow baking dish, filled-side face-up.
Drizzle the apples with the melted butter. In a small bowl, mix together the bread crumbs and brown sugar, then sprinkle the mixture over the apples.
Bake the apples for 25 minutes or until tender. Serve with heavy cream or Vanilla Cream Sauce.
