Ingredients

  • 2 pkgs yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup lukewarm water
  • 2 cups lukewarm water
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 6 cup white flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 1/2 cup rye flour
  • 1 egg, well beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water and sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar.

Sprinkle in 1/2 to 1 cup white flour before adding the yeast. Mix well and knead in the flour. Set in warm place to rise. Make into 2 loaves and bake at 350* for approx. 45 min. or until center of loaves are 200*.
