Ingredients

  • 3 quarts water
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 (3-inch) cinnamon stick
  • 1 piece fresh ginger, about 1-inch square, peeled
  • 5 bags of tea, any variety, or 2 1/2 tablespoons loose tea
  • 3 cups orange juice
  • 1 cup lemon juice
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 whole lemon, thinly sliced
  • 1 whole orange, thinly sliced

Preparation

Step 1

In a large nonaluminum kettle, combine the water, cloves, cinnamon stick, and ginger and heat to boiling. Add the tea. Cover the kettle, remove it from the heat, and let it steep for 5 minutes. Then remove the tea bags or leaves.

In another pan, heat the orange juice, lemon juice and sugar over medium heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Pour the hot fruit juice mixture into the spiced tea. Add the orange and lemon slices. Keep hot until ready to serve, but do not boil.
