French Onion Soup

  • 3 large onions thinly sliced in strips
  • 1/2 c butter
  • 4 c beef broth
  • 1 t worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 4 french bread slices toasted
  • 1/2 c white cheese
  • 1/4 c dry sherry (optional)



Step 1

Brown onions in butter. Combine worcestershire, broth, and salt. Add onions and simmer covered for one hour. Stir in sherry at the end if using. Top each bowl or crock with bread sprinkled with cheese. Run under broiler to melt cheese, 2 minutes.
