Ingredients

  • 2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. oatmeal
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 3/4 c. melted butter
  • Mix dry ingredients, add butter, mix well. Pat crumbs into 9 x 15 pan. Reserve 1 heaping cup for the topping.
  • Filling;
  • 1 c. sugar
  • 1 c. water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp. ccornsttarch
  • 1 tsp. vanilla

Step 1

mix all of the ingredients except vanilla and lemon juice. Bring to a boil to form a paste. Remove from the heat and add vanilla and lemon juice. To this add 5-6 cups of raw sliced or chopped apples (peeled). Mix well and pour over crumb crust. Top with remaining crumbs. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
Bake 1 hour at 350 degrees. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
