These applesauce jumble cookies have been a family favorite for decades! The browned butter glaze makes them even more irresistible.

Ingredients

  • BROWNED BUTTER GLAZE:
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 cups applesauce
  • 1/2 cup shortening or vegetable oil
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 6 ounces semi-sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 cups confectioners' sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons hot water

Step 1

COOKIES:
Heat oven to 375°F. Mix all ingredients except glaze thoroughly. Drop dough by level tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake 10 minutes or until almost no imprint remains when touched with finger. Immediately remove from baking sheet and cool. Spread with Browned Butter Glaze.

BROWNED BUTTER GLAZE:
Heat butter over low heat until golden brown. Remove from heat; blend in confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Stir in 2 to 4 tablespoons hot water a little bit at a time until it has a spreadable consistency.
