Ingredients
- 1 1/4 lb package bakers german sweet chocolate
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 2 1/2 cups sifted CAKE flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs separated
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup butter milk
- Frosting
- 1 cup evaporated milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 3 egg yol
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1/2 cups coconut
- 1 cup pecans
Preparation
Step 1
melt chocolate in boiling water
cool
sift flour, soda, and salt
cream butter and sugar well
add egg yokes 1 at a time, beating after each addition
add vanilla and melted chocolate
mixture
add flour mixture alternateing with buttermilk
beat until smooth
fold in egg whites which have been beaten to stiff peak
pour batter into 3 9 inches round greased and floured cake pans
bake until cake test done when toothpick is inserted in center
about 25 to 40 minutes
cool in pans 15 minutes then remove from pans and finish cooling on wire rack
FROSTING
Mix together in sauce pan milk, sugar, egg yolks, butter, vanilla
cook and stir until thick about 12 minutes
add coconut ans pecans
beat until cool and thick enough to spread
