Pie Crusts

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 8 oz. or 1 stick shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbls. sugar
  • 3/4 tsp. vinegar
  • cold water

Preparation

Step 1

Makes 2-9 inch pastry crusts.
Combine flour and salt. Add shortening and cut into flour mixture using a pastry blender, 2 knives or your fingers, until mixture resembles coarse meal. Combine egg, sugar, vinegar and enough cold water to equal a half cup. Pour over flour mixture.
Using a fork, mix just enough to combine.
Form into 2 balls, wrap each in plastic wrap and refrigerate until needed.
Sprinkle minimum flour on counter and roll out.
Fold dough into quarters and transfer to pie pan.
Unfold and press into pan.
