Ingredients
- Variations:
- 2 cups flour
- 3 Tbsp sugar or Splenda
- 3 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup cold butter or shortenong
- 2 egg
- 1/3 cup milk or thin cream
- substitute whole wheat for A-P flour
- add 1/2 cup raisins
- add 1/2 cup grated cheese, decrease sugar to 1 teaspoon
Preparation
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, and baking powder. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add in raisins or cheese at this point. In a small bowl, whisk egg and stir in milk until blended; add to crumb mixture just until moistened.
Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; gently knead 8-10 times. Divide dough in half, pat each portion into a 5-inch circle. Cut each circle into six or eight wedges.
Separate wedges and place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown. Serve warm.
