Ingredients

  • 2 c flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 heaping tbsp lard or shortening
  • Warm water

Step 1

Mix flour, baking powder, salt and lard, until well blended. Add enough warm water to moisten the flour mixture. Dough should be moist, but not sticky. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough slightly. Form into a ball, and pinch off some of the dough and form into smaller balls. Roll out to about 1/4" thick and cook a heated cast iron skillet, or on a heated griddle.

If you want to make soapillas use the same receipe reducing the lard or shortening to 1 heaping tsp. Roll out to 1/4" and cut into 4 pieces, drop into hot oil, spoon some oil over the dough until it puffs up, cook until golden brown.
