Classic Candy Apples

  • 12 medium apples
  • 2 C sugar
  • 1-2/3 C light corn syrup
  • red food coloring
  • toppings as desired: sprinkles, nuts, candy, etc.

Preparation

Step 1

Using popsicle sticks, skewer apples. In a sauce pan over low heat, cook sugar, corn syrup & 2/3 water 5 mins, or until sugar dissolves, stirring constantly. Increase heat to medium & cook sugar mixture until temperature on candy thermometer set in mixture reaches 300*. Do not stir. Remove mixture from heat & add drops of food coloring , continue adding until desired color is achieved. Place toppings on separate plates. Dip each apple into desired topping & place on foil lined cookie sheet to cool.
