Ingredients

  • FROSTING:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cubes margarine
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda (for high altitude, scant teaspoon)
  • 4 heaping tablespoons cocoa or 1/2 cup
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk or powdered buttermilk
  • 1 cube margarine
  • 4 large tablespoons cocoa, or 1/2 cup
  • 5 tablespoons milk
  • 4 cup powdered sugar
  • pinch salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup pecans

Preparation

Step 1

Mix first 3 ingredients together. Boil water, melt margarine in it and mix in cocoa. Mix with first 3 ingredients, and then add the rest of the ingredients. Bake for 20-25 minutes in greased 11x14" pan at 425 degrees. Do not over bake. Frost while hot.

FROSTING:
Beat ingredients (except pecans) until smooth and pour over cake. Sprinkle pecans on top.
