Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 lbs stew meat cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 3 T vegetable oil
  • 3 quarts water
  • 2-15 oz tomato sauce
  • 1/4 c beef bouillan granules
  • 1 t salt
  • 3 1/2 lbs potatoes cubed
  • 4 medium carrots sliced
  • 3 celery ribs sliced
  • 2 medium onions chopped coarsely
  • 3/4 c flour
  • 1 1/2 c cold water

Step 1

In soup kettle, brown beef in oil and drain. Stir in water, tomato sauce, bouillon, salt and pepper. Bring to a booil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer fore 1 1/2 hours until tender. Add potatoes, carrots, celery, onion. Return to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 25-30 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Combine flour and cold water until smooth. Gradually stir into stew. Bring to a boil, cook and stir for 2 minutes or until thick.
