Ingredients
- 1 8 oz. package cream cheese (low-fat is fine)
- 1 stick of butter (the real thing, NOT margarine)
- 1 envelope of Duncan Hines frosting flavoring
- 4-5 cups of confectioner's sugar, sifted
- heavy cream, as needed
Preparation
Step 1
Beat the cream cheese and butter until well-combined; add the flavoring packet.
Add the confectioner's sugar, a cup at a time, along with about 1/2 tsp. of cream at a time, until you get the consistency you want.
This will generously frost 24 cupcakes, a 9 X 13 cake, or a layer cake. If you need more frosting (like if you make, say, 36 cupcakes), just add more sugar and cream - the flavoring is intense enough that it'll still be very good.
I made gingerbread cupcakes and used the gingerbread frosting packet, and it was really good! (I made enough frosting with one flavor packet for 48 cupcakes.)
