- 4 CUPS FLOUR
- 1 TABS. SUGAR
- 1 1/2 TEAS. SALT
- 1 TEAS. BAKING SODA
- 1 CUP DRIED CURRANTS
- 1 1/2 CUPS BUTTERMILK

Step 1
PREHEAT OVEN TO 400*
SIFT FLOUR,SUGAR, SALT AND BAKING SODA INTO A LARGE BOWL, STIR IN CURRANTS TO COAT WITH FLOUR.
STIR IN BUTTERMILK, JUST UNTIL FLOUR IS MOISTENED. KNEAD DOUGH 10 TIMES IN BOWL WITH LIGHTLY-FLOURED HANDS.
TURN DOUGH OUT ONTO LIGHTLY FLOURED COOKIE SHEET AND SHAPE INTO AN 8" ROUND
CUT A CROSS INTO THE TOP WITH A KNIFE.
BAKE IN A PREHEATED HOT OVEN FOR 40 MINUTES OR UNTIL LOAF TURNS GOLDEN AND SOUNDS HOLLOW WHEN TAPPED. COOL COMPLETELY ON WIRE RACK BEFORE SLICING.
