I usually make 3 separate batches of dough, each one a different flavor layer. I also use an extendable loaf pan to form the dough for later slicing.

I have written this as the original recipe where you dvide the dough in 1/3's.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup MARGARINE or BUTTER
  • 1 1/2 cups SUGAR
  • 1 EGG
  • 1 tsp. VANILLA
  • 1 1/2 tsp. BAKING POWDER
  • 1/2 tsp. SALT
  • 2 1/2 cups FLOUR
  • 1/2 tsp. ALMOND EXTRACT
  • 1 square (1 oz) UNSWEETENED CHOCOLATE -melted
  • 1/2 cup CHOPPED PECANS or WALNUTS
  • RED FOOD COLORING

Preparation

Step 1

CREAM TOGETHER BUTTER & SUGAR
MIX IN EGG & VANILLA
ADD BAKING POWDER, SALT & FLOUR
MIX UNTIL ALL INGREDIENTS ARE WELL COMBINED
LINE THE BOTTOM & SIDES OF A 9 x 5 x 3 LOAF PAN WITH WAXED PAPER
DIVIDE DOUGH INTO THIRDS
ADD ALMOND EXTRACT & A FEW DROPS OF RED FOOD COLORING TO 1/3
MIX WELL TO CREATE A PINK-RED COLOR
STIR IN NUTS TO ANOTHER 1/3 & MIX WELL
ADD MELTED CHOCOLATE TO THE LAST 1/3 & MIX WELL
LAYER DOUGH INTO PAN WITH PINK LAYER, NUT LAYER AND CHOCOLATE LAYER
COVER AND REFRIGERATE OVERNIGHT
REMOVE DOUGH FROM PAN & PEEL OFF WAXED PAPER
CUT INTO 2 SECTIONS LENGTH WISE
SLICE DOUGH CROSSWISE INTO 1/8" SLICES
BAKE AT 350 FOR 10-12 MINUTES
