Classic Frosted Brownies

Ingredients

  • Brownies:
  • 6 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1-1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1-3/4 cups sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • Frosting:
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate, coarsely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons corn syrup
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla

Preparation

Step 1

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F.
2. Coat 15" x 10" jell-roll pan with non-stick cooking spray.
3. Melt chocolate and butter in bowl over simmering water in saucepan; stir until smooth.
4. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt in small bowl.
5. Stir together sugar, eggs,, vanilla and chocolate=butter mixture in second bowl.
6. Stir in flour mixture.
7. Spread into prepared pan.
8. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes or until dry-looking on top and firm to the touch.

Frosting:
9. combine sugar, milk, butter, chocolate and corn syrup in medium-sized saucepan.
10. Bring to boil over medium-high heat; cook 1 minute.
11. Remove from heat; stir in vanilla.
12. Cool to room temperature.
13. Beat with a mixer until spreading consistency.
14. Cool brownies in pan on wire rack.
15. Spread evenly with frosting; let stand 30 minutes to set.
