Ingredients
- For a two-crust pastry:
- 13/4 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup oil
- 3 tablespoon ice water
- Filling:
- 5-7 large apples
- 3/4 to 1 cup sugar (save some for top of pie crust)
- 2 tablespoons flour
- Dash of salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (or more to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, sliced thin
Preparation
Step 1
Crust: Combine first three ingredients lightly. Do not overmix. Add ice water. Mix gently. Roll out between two sheets of plastic wrap on damp counter.
Filling: Peel and slice apples. Mix rest of ingredients with apples. Put bottom crust in pie plate. Put some sugar over the bottom crust, because this prevents a soggy crust. Add apples. Dot with thinly sliced butter. Top with crust. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes or until done.
