Preparation
Step 1
Directions
1. In a small skillet set over medium heat, stir together brown sugar, unsalted butter and apples and sauté until fork-tender, about 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat and set aside.
2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar and salt.
3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter and vanilla, then stir into flour mixture to form a batter.
4. Stir sautéed apple mixture into batter until well combined. Set aside.
6. Spoon reserved batter into apples, place in a greased 9-inch square baking dish, and bake on centre rack of a preheated 350 degrees Fahrenheit oven (177 degrees Celsius) until fork-tender, about 40 minutes. Let apples rest 10 minutes before serving.
1. In a small saucepan set over medium-high heat, stir together sugar, water and salt, bring to a boil. Cook until water has evaporated and sugar is light golden brown, about 8 minutes. Do not stir or shake pot.
2. Remove pot from heat and whisk in butter and cream; be careful as mixture will sputter. Keep sauce warm until ready to serve.
3. To Plate: Place a warm baked apple in each of 4 dessert dishes and spoon a generous amount of caramel sauce of the top. Serve immediately.
