Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450. Spray a baking sheet with nonstick cooking spray.

In a medium bowl, place flour. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly. Slowly add buttermilk, stirring with a fork, just until mixture is combined.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead 2 or 3 times or just until dough is smooth. Pat dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Fold dough in half so it measures 1/2 inch thickness. Using a 3-inch cutter or drinking glass, cut out dough. To make a "cathead" or "scrap" biscuit, gather dough scraps, and knead 1 or 2 times or just until dough is smooth. Pat dough to 1/2 inch thickness.

Place biscuits on prepared baking sheet. Brush with melted butter, if desired. Bake for 12-15 mins. or until golden brown. Serve hot with Homestyle Chicken and Bacon Gray.
