Turtle Caramel Apples

Ingredients

  • 4 lg Golden Delicious apples
  • 2 jars (3 1/2 oz each) macadamia nuts or pecans
  • 14 oz pkg caramels, unwrapped
  • 1 bittersweet or semisweet chocolate candy bar (2 oz) broken into small pieces
  • craft sticks

Preparation

Step 1

Line 13 x 9 pan with waxed paper, set aside.

Wash & dry apples. remove stems. Insert sticks into center.

Coarsely chop nuts, set aside.

Melt caramels and 2 T water in small saucepan. Simmer over low heat until melted, stir freuently with wooden spoon.

Dip apples in caramel cover completely. Scrape excess caramel from bottom on apple onto side of pan & let excess drip back into pan. Immediately roll apple in nuts, pressing nuts in to stick.
place on prepared pan let stand 20 min or til caramel set.

Place chocolate in small resealable bag. Microwave med 1 min turn bag over and microwave med 1 min or until melted. knead bag til smooth. Snip off small corner bag drizzle over apple. Let apple stand 30 min or til chocolate set.

Store loosely covered in refrig up to 3 days. Let stand at room temp 15 min before serving
