Ingredients
- Topping:
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 tsp nutmeg
- 3 whole eggs
- Dash of salt
- 2 cups sifted flour
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp soda
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/4 lb. butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup cream
Preparation
Step 1
Cream shortening and sugar together and all the beaten eggs. Sift all dry ingredients together and add alternately with the butter-milk to sugar shortening mixture. Add the vanilla. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees in a well greased pyrex dish. Remove from oven. Leave in the baking dish and pour on the topping.
Topping:
Boil all topping ingredients two minutes and then add: (optional: 1 cup pecans, 1 cup shredded coconut and 1 teaspoon vanilla.) Pour at once on the warm cake.
