Ingredients
- 2 c. all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 c. milk
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 4 egg whites
Preparation
Step 1
Heat oven to 350.
Grease and flour 13x9x2 baking pan or 2 8 or 9 inch round cake pans. If making cupcakes, put paper liners into 2 muffin pans.
Measure flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, shortening, 2/3 c. milk and vanilla into a large mixer bowl. Blend 1/2 minute on low speed scraping bowl constantly. Beat 2 minutes on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally. Add remaining milk and egg whites; beat 2 minutes on high speed, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pans.
Bake oblong 35-40 minutes, layers 30-35 minutes, cupcakes 20 minutes. Cake is done when wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
Frost as desired.
Note to family: Pillsbury Classic White frosting does not contain dairy.
