CHOCOLATE SYRUP SHOO-FLY PIE

  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 c sugar
  • 1 1/3 c boiling water
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 lb can chocolate syrup
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/3 c butter
  • 1 1/3 c flour

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve ¼ tsp baking soda in boiling water. Stir in chocolate syrup and vanilla; set aside. Combine flour, sugar, salt and remaining baking soda. Cut in butter to form coarse crumbs. Set aside 1 c of each chocolate mixture and crumbs. Gently combine remaining chocolate mixture and crumbs. Gently combine remaining chocolate mixture and crumbs until moistened. Mixture will be lumpy. Pour reserved chocolate into pie shell; pour chocolate and crumb mixture evenly over chocolate; sprinkle with remaining crumbs. Bake 370, 1 hour; cool.
