CHOCOLATE COVERED CHERRY COOKIES

  • 1 1/2 c flour
  • 1/2 c butter/marg
  • 1/2 c unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 10 oz maraschino cherries
  • 6 oz semisweet chocolate
  • 1/2 c Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

Preparation

Step 1

Stir flour, cocoa powder, salt, baking powder and baking soda. In mixer, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients. Shape into 1” balls; place on ungreased cookie sheet. Press center with thumb. Bake.
Drain cherries, reserve juice. Place a cherry in the center. In saucepan, combine milk and chocolate pieces. Heat and stir in 4 tsp cherry juice. Spoon over each cherry.
