Ingredients
- 3/4 c sugar
- 3 egg yolks, beaten
- 5 T cocoa powder
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3 % cornstarch
- 1 baked pie crust
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 4 egg whites
- 2 c milk
- 1/4 tsp cream of tarter
- 6 T white sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Mix sugar, cocoa, corn starch & salt in saucepan. Cook over med. Heat until thick and bubbly. Reduct heat and cook 2 minutes more. Remove from heat. Stir 1 c hot mixture into egg yolks-mix back into custard. Boil 2 more minutes. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla.l Put egg whites in clean bowl w/ cream of tarter to soft peaks. Gradually add sugar to stiff peaks. Spread over filling 350, 12-15 minutes.
