Ingredients

  • HONEY DATE FILLING:

  • 6

    ounces pitted dates

  • 6

    ounces chopped pecans or walnuts

  • 1/4

    cup sugar

  • 1/4

    cup honey

  • 1

    teaspoon grated orange peel

  • 1 1/2

    tablespoon orange juice

  • COOKIE DOUGH:

  • 1

    cup butter, softened

  • 1/2

    cup sugar

  • 2 1/4

    cups flour

  • 1/4

    teaspoon salt

  • 1/4

    teaspoon vanilla

  • 1

    egg

  • Powdered sugar, optional

Directions

Prepare honey date filling by putting all ingredients in a food processor and pulsing until a smooth consistency. Heat oven to 375° F. Beat butter and sugar. Stir in remaining ingred except powdered sugar. Place dough in cookie press with ribbon tip. Form 10-inch ribbons about 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Spoon filling down center of each ribbon to form 1/2-inch-wide strip. Top with another ribbon of dough and gently press edges with fork to seal. Bake 12 - 15 minutes or until light brown. Immediately cut ribbons into 2-inch lengths and move to wire rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.
