CIDER****Butter Grog

25/12/13 - This is very good for both, it elevates simple cider. Add a shot of spiced rum to it.

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 Tbsp butter (Not sure about this - it just sticks to everything it touches - makes more sense to me to simply add a bit of butter to each mug when preparing)
  • 4 cups apple cider
  • 1 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 whole cloves (Didn't have, used star anise instead)
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Peel from 1 lemon
  • Peel and juice from 1 orange
  • 1 " piece ginger root, sliced
  • 2 tsp rum extract

Preparation

Step 1

*Melt* the butter in a medium-size saucepan. *Add* the cider, brown sugar, cloves, cinnamon, lemon and orange peels, orange juice, and ginger. *Bring* the liquid to a simmer, and then remove pan from the heat. *Let* the mixture steep for at least 30 minutes. *Strain* into cider jug and refrigerate until ready to use; reheat to serve warm.
