Erin's recipe for Red Sauce

By

this is a simple and very easy recipe I whipped up for making burritos

  • 8 mins

Ingredients

  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • dash Tabasco sauce (if wanted/to taste)
  • crushed black pepper (to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon taco spice
  • 1 small jalapeno pepper

Preparation

Step 1

add 1 can tomato sauce to a small saucepan. Add 1 tablespoon molasses; if the molasses sticks to the tablespoon, you can take a spoon and scoop it out. Next stir in about 1/2 teaspoon taco seasoning and stir to combine. Cook over very low heat, stirring occasionally. Make sure the sauce does not stick to the bottom of the pan. If this happens, immediately remove from heat. You can either add the Tabasco sauce and black pepper while cooking or after. I like to add everything while it's cooking. For added heat, dice a small jalapeno pepper and add to sauce.

note: I like to buy a can of jalapeno peppers, rinse them, then place them in a freezer bag and freeze them. For this recipe I usually take one and thaw it by sauteing it. I use a small amount of olive oil in a skillet and thaw over low heat. If you do this, make sure you watch it closely and flip it onto the other sides. The thawing takes about 3 minutes.
