Ingredients

    stick butter

  • 3/4

    cup sugar

  • 4

    eggs separated

  • 1

    cup grated almonds

  • 1

    cup flour

  • 1

    teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/8

    teaspoon salt

  • 5

    Tablespoons milk

  • 1

    teaspoon vanilla

  • 1

    cup sugar

  • 1/2

    pint whipping cream

Directions

Cream butter and ¾ cup sugar. Add well beaten egg yolks. Add ¾ cup nuts and sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk and flavoring. Beat vigorously. Pour into 2 buttered and floured layer cake tins. Make meringue of egg whites and 1 cup sugar. Spread over batter in tins and sprinkle with remaining ¼ cup nuts. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. When cool, spread whipped cream between layers.
