Fried Green Tomatoes

Ingredients

  • Tomatoes:
  • 4 green tomatoes
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 Tbsp. garlic powder
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. milk
  • 1 1/2 c. panko
  • pinch cayenne
  • pinch paprika
  • vegetable oil for frying
  • Dipping Sauce:
  • 1/2 c. plain yogurt
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 1/4 c. horseradish
  • 1 tsp. lemon jest
  • 2 Tbsp. lemon juice

Step 1

Wash and slice tomatoes into 1/4" slices. Salt and pepper to taste.

Combine flour and garlic powder in one bowl. Combine eggs and milk in another bowl and whip together.
In a third bowl, combine panko, cayenne and paprika.

Heat oil in large saucepan. Coat each tomato slice first into the flour mixture, then in the egg mixture, then in the panko mixture. Add to hot oil. Turn over half way through cooking. The slices should be golden brown and crispy on both sides. Remove to paper towels for draining. Work in small batches until all are cooked.

Meanwhile, combine the sauce ingredients in a small bowl.

Serve fried green tomatoes with the sauce.
