Preparation

Step 1

1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Place the pecan pieces on a baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden brown, about 6 minutes.

3. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon and pecans. Add the butter. Rub the mixture in the palms of your hands, working in the butter but still keeping the mixture crumbly. Set aside in a cool place. (This can be made in advance and stored in the freezer up to 2 months.)

4. Peel, core and slice the pears into 1/2" thick slices. Toss the slices with the sugar and flour. Place in a small, deep baking dish and cover evenly with the topping.

5. Bake in the oven until the top is brown, bubbly and crisp, about 1 hour. (This can be made in the morning, kept at room temperature, and reheated when ready to serve.)

6. Divide the warm crisp into 2 bowls and top with ice cream or frozen yogurt.

Serving Size: about 1 cup of crisp and 1/2 cup of low-fat frozen yogurt
