Cinnamon Sugar Cookies

Ingredients
- 2 cups all purpose flour( spooned and leveled) plus more for rolling
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
- Decorating sugar and candies ( optional)
- Confectioner's Sugar for decorating (optional)

Step 1
1. Make Dough- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder,salt and cinnamon, set aside.
2. Cream butter and granulated sugar in a large bowl using a electric mixer until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. With mixer on low, gradually add flour mixture; beat until combined. Divide dough in half'; form into 3/4 inch disks. Wrap each into plastic; refrigerate until firm at least one hour
3. Place one disk between two sheets of floured parchment paper, roll out to an 1/8 inch thickness, lightly dusting dough with flour if needed. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters. If dough gets too soft, chill for 10 minutes.Using a metal spatula with a thin blade, transfer cut out shapes to a parchment lined baking sheet. Re roll scraps, cut more shapes. repeat with remaining disk
4. Preheat oven to 325.Bake , decorating if desired with decorating sugar until edges are golden 10 -15 minutes, rotating sheets halfway through. Cool cookies for 1 minute on sheets , then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely
5. Store in a airtight container with wax paper between layers for 1 week at room temperature
Decorating Note:Sprinkle decorating sugar on cut out dough prior to baking. Stick candies after the cookies have baked and cooled ,using dabs of Sugar paste
Sugar paste 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar whisked together with 1 tsp water
