RED VELVET CAKE

Preparation

Step 1

Beat 1/2 c Crisco, 1 1/2 c granulated sugar, and 2 eggs. Alternately, add these two mixtures to the sugar mixture:
Paste: 2 oz red coloring, 2 T cocoa, 1 c whole milk
Flour: 2 1/2 c flour, salt, add 1 tsp vanilla.
Mix soda mixture: 1 tsp vinegar, 1 tsp soda. Add to cake mixture.
Frosting: Cook 3 T flour and 1 c whole milk. Cook until boils and becomes thick. Let this mixture cool thoroughly. Beat 1 c granulated sugar, ½ c butter, 1 tsp vanilla. Blend in flour mixture.
