Spiced Cranberry Sangria

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cranberries, rinsed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 15 whole cloves
  • 12 whole allspice berries
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 organic red delicious apple, sliced thin
  • 1 organic granny smith apple, sliced thin
  • 1 organic orange, sliced thin
  • 1 cup orange liqueur (I suggest Leopold Bros American Orange
  • Liqueur, Torres Orange Brandy or Grand Marnier)
  • 1 bottle of Tempranillo wine (Spanish red wine)

Preparation

Step 1


Over medium heat, bring sugar and water to a boil in a medium saucepan. Stir to dissolve the sugar.
Once the sugar has dissolved, add the cranberries and spices. It’s best to put the spices in a muslin tea bag rather than loose in the pot.
Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes until the berries have burst.
Remove the mixture from heat to let the flavors infuse for about 10 to 15 minutes.
Remove the spices from the syrup, transfer the syrup to a small bowl and put it in the fridge to cool.
While the cranberry syrup is cooling, slice your apples and orange and add to a pitcher.
Add the orange liqueur, cooled cranberry syrup (including the cooked cranberries) and the wine to the pitcher.
Cover and put it in the fridge for 3 to 4 hours.
Stir before serving.
Enjoy with friends and don’t forget to eat the booze soaked fruit, especially the cranberries. Yum!
