Ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 2/3 shortening
- 1 cup buttermilk

Preheat the oven to 425. Lightly grease a baking sheet.
Stir together the flour, salt, sugar and baking powder in a bowl. Cut in the shortening with a pastry blender until the mixture is crumbly. Stir in the buttermilk to form a soft dough. Do not overmix because too much handling makes the biscuits tough.
Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to a thickness of ½ inch. Cut out 15 rounds with a 2 inch biscuit cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
Bake the biscuits for about 15 minutes, until browned. Serve immediately.
