Ingredients
- Cake:
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1 cup margarine
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon soda
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- Icing:
- 1/2 cup margarine
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- A little more than 1/3 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 cup nuts (optional)
- 1 lb powdered sugar
Preparation
Step 1
Cake:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Sift sugar, flour, and salt together into a large bowl.
Heat cocoa, margarine, and water to boiling.
Pour chocolate mixture over sugar and flour mixture. Mix thoroughly.
Add buttermilk, soda, eggs, and vanilla. Mix well.
Pour into greased jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.
Icing:
5 minutes before cake is done place all incing ingredients in saucepan and bring to a boil. Add powdered sugar (about 1 lb). Spread on bars while hot.
Cool and cut into bars.
