Ingredients
- For the Hot Relish:
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 whole onion, diced
- 1 (7 ounce) ham steak, cubed into 1/2 cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- pinch of black pepper
- For the Hot Dogs:
- 8 beef hot dogs
- 8 hot dog buns
- 8 ounces swiss cheese, shredded
- 1 jar of dill pickle chips
- deli mustard
Preparation
Step 1
In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon butter over medium-high heat. Add the onions and ham and saute until caramelized and browning (about 10-12 minutes). Season with salt and pepper. Turn heat to low and keep warm until ready to use.
Pre-heat grill to medium-high heat and grill hot dogs to liking. We like ours a little extra dark! Prepare hot dog buns by putting a little bit of mustard and 4-5 dill pickle slices. Add one hot dog per bun and top with a sprinkle of shredded Swiss cheese. Next, carefully place a generous scoop of the hot ham & onion relish on top (it will melt the cheese nicely!). Lastly, top with additional mustard if desired.
