Black Jack Barbecue Sauce

Black Jack Barbecue Sauce gets its name from the jolt of strong coffee that is added to it.

Ingredients
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 yellow onion, diced small
- 2 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/4 c. chili powder
- 2 tbsp minced jalapeno, or to taste
- 1 c. tomato paste
- 1 c. brewed coffee
- 1 c. worcestershire sauce
- 1/2 c. apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 c. lightly packed brown sugar
- 1/2 c. apple cider or apple juice
Preparation
Step 1
Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy 2 quart saucepan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and saute until translucent, about 3 minutes. Add the chili powder and jalapeno and saute for 1 minute. Add the tomato paste and cook, stirring constantly, for 2 mintues.
Add all the remainin ingredients and simmer, stirring occasionally, for 10-15 minutes. Use immediately, or let cool to room temperature before storing in a clean, covered container in the refrigerator for up to 1 month.
