Peppermint Layer Cake

Ingredients

• 1 box Betty Crocker Supermoist white cake mix
• water,oil and egg whites called for on cake mix box
• 1/2 t mint extract
• 3 containers Betty Crocker whipped fluffy white frosting
• Red & Green food coloring
• 20 red and green hard round peppermint candies - unwrapped
• 12 red and green candy canes

Preparation

Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 8 inch round cake pans. Make care mix directed on box adding mint extract. Pour batter into pans and bake and cool completely. Cut each layer to make 4 total layers. tint 1 container of frosting with red food coloring and tint 1 cup of frosting from 2nd container with green food coloring. Leave remaining frosting white. Place 1 cake layer on plate and frost top with red frosting, top with second layer and frost with green frosting, top with 3rd layer and frost with red frosting, top with 4th layer and spread white frosting on top and side of cake. Freeze 1 hour. Place red and green round candies around bottom of cake. Break candy canes into large pieces and place in center of cake top.
