Ingredients

  • 3 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley flakes
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 cup diced red onion
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 1/2 pounds beef top sirloin steak, trimmed
  • 4 whole grain burger buns, split and lightly toasted

Preparation

Step 1

In a small saucepan, combine water with next 9 ingredients (black pepper through bay leaf); blend well and bring to a simmer. Place steak in a slow cooker and pour hot spice mixture on top. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. When done, remove bay leaf, shred meat with two forks and serve on burger buns.

SERVING SUGGESTION: Corn on the cob and a big salad tossed with Easy Balsamic Vinaigrette (see recipe).
