CHOCOLATE ORANGE BLOSSOMS

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar
  • 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 Tbsp. grated orange peel
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 egg
  • 1 3/4 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Granulated sugar
  • 48 milk chocolate candy kisses

Step 1

Beat 1/2 c. sugar, brown sugar, cocoa, shortening and butter until light and fluffy. Add orange peel, vanilla and egg; blend well.

Combine flour, baking soda and salt; add to creamed mixture and mix well. Cover dough; refrigerate 1 hour for easier handling.

Shape dough into 1" balls; roll in granulated sugar. Place 2" apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake @ 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes or until set.

Immediately top each cookie with a candy kiss, pressing down so cookie cracks around edges. Remove from cookie sheets to wire racks; cool completely.
