Ingredients
- Batter #1
- 6 egg whites
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- Dash of salt
- 1/2 cup cake flour
- 1/2 teaspoon almond flavoring
- 3/4 cup sugar
- Batter #2
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup cake flour
- 1/4 cup boiling water
- Pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon lemon flavoring
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
Preparation
Step 1
Batter #1
Beat egg whites and salt until foamy; add cream of tartar. Beat until whites stand in peaks.
Sift flour and sugar 4 times. Fold flour into egg whites, 2 tablespoons at a time. Fold in almond flavoring. Pout into an ungreased tube pan.

Batter #2
Beat egg yolks, sugar and salt 3 minutes. Add baking powder to flour and sift 4 times. Fold flour and water, alternately, into egg mixture. Add lemon flavoring slowly. Layer by spoonfuls onto top of batter #1 miture.
Bake 35 minutes at 375 degrees. Ice with Lemon Icing (see below)

Lemon Icing
1/4 cup butter
2 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon lemon flavoring
1 teaspoon yellow food coloring if desired
2 tablespoons cream or milk
Cream butter with powdered sugar. Add remaining ingredients and mix until smooth.
